You’re reading this, so you obviously have good taste in beer. But you might be wondering, “Besides good advice, what is ‘Drink Indiana Beer’?” And you might think, “What is Brewers of Indiana Guild and why should I care?” Well, here are some answers.
The Brewers of Indiana Guild is a non-profit trade association that represents and supports Indiana’s nearly 100 craft breweries. (Yep–we’re currently at 96!) The Guild was founded in 2000 by some of the brightest minds and most talented brewers in the Indiana brewing scene.
“Drink Indiana Beer” is the name of our new public awareness campaign and this website, all dedicated to promoting the Indiana brewing industry.
Through Drink Indiana Beer, we hope to:
- encourage people to purchase local beer instead of national or global brands
- promote Indiana as a beer tourism destination
- urge those who already enjoy Indiana beer–fine folks like yourself–to support the industry further by backing legislative efforts.
Indiana’s breweries aren’t just places to get beer: They’re small businesses whose owners invest in their communities, and every time you choose to purchase a pint or a six-pack locally, that money helps support the surrounding area.
So check out our new map, which features a geolocation option that will let you search for nearby breweries. The basics are there now, and we’ll be adding a lot more info soon, like hours and whether the locations are family friendly or 21+.
You’ll also find information about Indiana craft beer events, like the next Winterfest (Jan. 31, 2015 at Indiana State Fairgrounds).
And you’ll find other ways to become involved, whether you’re a brewer, craft beer fan, and/or business owner.
The craft brewing industry in Indiana is growing quickly, and we want you to be part of it. According to the national Brewers Association, more than 6,000 full-time employees are employed thanks to the craft beer industry, which has an economic impact of more than $600M a year.
As we quickly approach 100 craft breweries in Indiana, we’re excited to launch this new website and the Drink Indiana Beer campaign.
