On Sunday, the Indiana State Fair Beer & Wine Exhibit hosted the 2016 Bicentenni-Ale Beer Competition. A panel of local celebrity judges blind-taste-tested the beers, and here are there favorites. Congrats to the winners!
1. Angus – Pokro Brewing Company
British Strong Ale brewed with whole leaf fuggle hops from Cone Keepers Hop Yard in Demotte, IN. 7.6% ABV, 40 IBU
2. Tulip Tree IPA – Evil Czech Brewery
An all-Indiana ingredient IPA with malted barley from Sugar Creek Malts in Lebanon and Columbus hops grown in Indy at Indy High Bines. A light body with rich malt flavors to balance the crisp bitterness and piney and earthy aromas of the hops. 5.7% ABV, 44 IBU, 7 SRM
3. Indiana Un-Common Bicentenni-Ale – Triton Brewing Company
Triton’s take on the California Common style, brewed in honor of Indiana’s Bicentennial and the Centennial of the Indiana State Parks, with locally sourced ingredients like Yee Olde Pale Malt from Sugar Creek Malt Co. 4.7%, 35 IBU
