3 reasons why you can’t miss Winterfest

The 11th Annual Brewers of Indiana Guild Winterfest is almost here, and as a lover of craft beer, you can’t miss the year’s biggest and best beer fest yet. Get your tickets before they’re gone.

Here are just a few reasons why you can’t miss next week’s event on Friday, February 1 from 6 – 9 p.m. and Saturday, February 2 from 2 – 6 p.m. at the Indiana State Fairgrounds.

1. The beer.

Winterfest is one of the only beer festivals in Indiana that features only locally brewed beer from breweries across Indiana, as well as Hoosier meads and ciders.

If you consider yourself a beer geek, you’ll want to be a part of the first-ever Friday night Exclusive Specialties Session

60+ breweries and guests will each pour two beers, meads, or ciders that you can’t get on Saturday.

Check out the lineup for the astounding array, including 3 Floyds’ much sought after Pear Bear, a delicious double-dry-hopped IPA from Deviate, and an array of Imperial StoutsIPAsSours, and Barley Wines.

Going to the Saturday session? There will be hundreds of beers to choose from, brewed by 100+ Indiana breweries

And be sure to stop by the HopCat booth and the Cask Ales area for brews that you won’t find being poured elsewhere at the fest.

2. It’ll make you feel good.

Yes, the beer will make you feel good (well, up to a certain point–don’t forget to drink plenty of water!)

But how about the fact that Winterfest directly supports local nonprofits

It’s a crucial fundraiser for the Brewers of Indiana Guild, the nearly 20 year old organization that made Sunday growler fills possible, created Tomlinson Tap Room (featuring all Indiana draughts, all the time), and continues to promote, educate, and legislate on behalf of the state’s breweries. Without successful fundraisers like Winterfest, the Guild wouldn’t exist.

Even better, charities will benefit, too. The local nonprofit adult day center, Joy’s House, is the charity partner again this year, receiving $3 from every ticket sold, plus donations from their coat check services.

Raise the Bar IndianaOptimist Club of North Side Indianapolis, and Habitat for Humanity’s “The House that Beer Built” will all have booths with games and interactive components that both support their missions and will give you some fun things to do between sipping on suds.

Enjoy shopping? There will be a bunch of beer-related goodies to buy, including limited edition Winterfest and Drink Indiana Beer merch at the Guild’s booth near the north entrance of the building.

And if you come to the Friday Exclusive Specialties session, you’ll have the chance to talk to the brewers about their creations.

3. It’s easy to grab a beer and have fun.

Get into the fest quickly by getting your wristband ahead of time at one of several pre-banding events at HopCat and Tomlinson Tap Room

Just show up, flash your ID and ticket to get your wristband, then go into the fest using the Pre-Banded lanes. You might know that Winterfest had long lines to get in a few years ago, but we’ve revamped the entry process at all of our festivals to make it easier for everyone. Getting in was a breeze last year–just ask a friend who went.

Getting your beer is simple, too. Ticket prices start at only $40 and include a commemorative taster glass and as many 3 oz. sample pours as you can responsibly drink, so you don’t need to worry about buying beers.

If you like getting your beer quickly or if you came to the Early Bird hour in years past, come to the Friday Exclusive Specialties session for a smaller crowd, short lines, and specialty beers. The new Friday session is basically the same as the old Early Bird, but with an extra two hours and unique beers that you can’t get on Saturday!

Bring your jacket if it’s coldJoy’s House will run not one, but two coat checks this year. It’s free to stash your stuff with them, and donations to support their mission are welcomed.
